DANIELE CARCASSI
In the first, Zero, the Italian Daniele Carcassi employs electronic materials, vocal elements, digital processing and soundscapes “for the construction of a new world”. He explains the choice of a number as the title of his piece because “numbers are the essence of all things. All things are identifiable and describable in an objective, universal way, valid for everyone on the basis of quantitative data, that is, thanks to numbers. But when these begin to flake off and recompose their meaning becomes unknown.”

AGITA REĶE
In the second, B-Network, the Latvian Agita Reke declares that she was inspired by the knowledge that yoga nidra meditation gives and its relation to the human body: “yoga nidra or yogic sleep is a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping” she explains. As regards the performance, it “includes my subjective feelings about five bodies that Yoga Nidra goes through. I would like to show different emotional and physical conditions through this performance. Key words would be physical body; energy network; human structure; awareness of sensations; out of body experience; vibrations; coldness or heat; heaviness or lightness; pleasure and pain; total absence of pleasure and pain.” To create the right atmosphere, she makes use of live electronics, synthesizer sounds, noise objects, voice samples and live / recorded flute effects.

X. LEE
RADIOMANCER is an experimental dj/turntablist piece – using the typical tools of a classic DJ setup to manipulate and piece together a concert experience. It is also meant to be an exploration of the ritual of a DJ performance, i.e. the conjuring of energy and guidance through time. “There is a presence that is established through watching a performer unfolding sounds through tactile DJ techniques (scratching, mixing, beat juggling, etc.). Alongside lights and staging – it sets a space removed from our daily realities - shifting into a disorienting realm” in X. Lee’s words. Coherently with the overarching theme of the Biennale Musica 2021, which is the human voice, he employs recordings of digital “voices” through radio, radio interference, and the electromagnetic fields that are ever surrounding us in cities as sonic material used in the project.
