Computer Composition, Algorithmic Composition, Experimental Performance, Generative Music, Sound Installation, Biotechnology applied to Music, Artificial Intelligence and Augmented Reality Sound Projects, Electronica.
DESCRIPTION
The Biennale College Musica 2023 project will involve up to a maximum of 10 young composers, performers, sound artists or programmers selected from all over the world, aged between 18 and 30, who will be in residence for research and musical creation in Venice at the CIMM Studios (La Biennale di Venezia Centre for Computer Music and Multimedia) for 8 weeks divided into three two-week stays during the 2023 and two-week stay during the festival Micro-Music, dedicated to the diffusion and treatment of the digital sound (October 16 -29, 2023).
The group of tutors is made up of leading artists and programmers of digital sound: Miller Puckette, Gerfried Stocker, Kyoka, Thierry Coduys, Brigitta Muntendorf and Oscar Pizzo.
The selection will be made considering the research areas of the different tutors so that each tutor can be the direct supervisor of one or two selected projects.
The selected musicians will follow lessons and conferences proposed by the tutors and will work in residence to create new projects that will be programmed within the Micro-Music Festival.
Each stay will be organized with common and individual lessons of the tutors, different periods of supervised work in the studios and individual work in dedicated spaces of La Biennale di Venezia.
The work in the studio will offer sessions for programming, elaboration, recording and sound diffusion under the supervision of different tutors and the technical staff of the Biennale Musica.
The Biennale College Musica team will be in contact with the participants throughout the whole process of creation and production (from March to October 2023).
TUTORS AND AREAS OF INTEREST
Miller Puckette
Algorithmic composition
Miller Puckette is one of the most important innovators of real-time music elaboration, creator of Max, currently developing Pure Data, an open-source real-time multimedia arts programming environment. He obtained a B.S. in Mathematics from MIT (1980) and Ph. D. in Mathematics from Harvard (1986). Puckette is professor at the music department of the University of California, San Diego.
Gerfried Stocker
Artificial Intelligence and Biotechnology applied to Music

After a few years at IRCAM, Coduys became an assistant to Luciano Berio and launch the technology platform La kitchen in 1999. In 2007, Coduys began to collaborate independently with Le Hub to pursue his research in a new, flexible and open format. Over the last fifteen years Coduys has also developed a new graphic interface, IanniX, a software inspired by Iannis Xenakis’s UPIC.
Brigitta Muntendorf
Digital Composition
Augmented Reality and Artificial Intelligence
The German-Austrian composer Brigitta Muntendorf has created a multi-layered web of analog-digital modes of expression in her works.
